A 10-YEAR-OLD BOY LEARNED A VALUABLE LESSON ON THE DANGERS OF GETTING INTO THE WATER DURING A RIPTIDE WARNING. HE HAD TO BE RESCUED OFF HUNTING ISLAND YESTERDAY –AND THE WHOLE THING WAS CAPTURED ON DRONE CAMERA. NEWS THREE’S STASSY OLMOS SPOKE WITH THE YOUNG BOY AND THE MAN WHO SAVED HIS LIFE –. DESPITE WARNINGS OF DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS IN OUR OCEANS… SOME LOCALS HERE IN BEAUFORT SAY HURRICANES THAT ARE FAR ENOUGH AWAY… BRING THE BEST WAVES. BENJI YELLS ‘STAY ON YOUR BOARD, DON’T GET OFF YOUR BOARD’ BENJIE GECY WAS OUT SURFING… DESPITE RIP CURRENT WARNINGS — HE SAYS HURRICANES OUT IN THE ATLANTIC BRING THE BEST WAVES…. BENJI GECY: SOME OF THE BEST WAVES THAT I’VE SEEN, EVER, I’VE BEEN SURFING 32 YEARS AROUND HERE. AMANDA JAQUES: THERE WERE LOTS OF SURFERS OUT, AND THE WAVES WERE INCREDIBLE, AND SO WE ENJOYED A LOT OF THEM. BUT AMANDA JAQUES AND HER SON HENRY DID NOT ENJOY THE WAVES FOR LONG…. AMANDA JAQUES: I COULD FEEL BOTH OF US DRIFTING, AND I KNEW THAT WE WERE IN DANGER. —- I KNEW I WASN’T STRONG ENOUGH TO SAVE BOTH OF US. BENJI GECY: I THOUGHT I HEARD SOMEBODY YELLING FOR HELP. — I REALLY COULDN’T SEE BECAUSE WE WERE IN THE BREAKERS, AND HAD DOZENS OF SURFERS OUT THERE, BUT I DID HEAR SOMEBODY YELLING FOR HELP AND THEY WERE WAVING THEIR ARMS…. GECY STARTED SWIMMING TOWARDS THOSE ARMS… AND HIS BROTHER, BOBBY, FIRED UP HIS DRONE…. BENJI GECY: I SAW A CHILD 50 TO 60 YARDS OUT PAST THE LINEUP PASS THE JETTY AND I KNEW THAT SOMEBODY IS POTENTIALLY IN A LOT OF TROUBLE. — EVERY WAVE THAT CAME THROUGH I COULD NOT SEE HIM — I WOULD SEE HIM AGAIN, HE WAS OFF THE BOARD YOU KNOW, WHICH LIKE HE WAS GOING UNDER WATER AND DROWNING– HE WAS JUST TRYING TO STROKE, BUT HE WAS NOT GOING ANYWHERE. GECY EVENTUALLY GOT TO HENRY, CAUGHT THEIR BREATH AND BROUGHT HIM SAFELY BACK TO SHORE…. AMANDA JAQUES: I HAVE HAD A LOT OF PEOPLE ASK YOU KNOW, WHY WOULD YOU LET, ALLOW YOUR 10-YEAR-OLD SON INTO THE WATER DURING A HURRICANE, WHY WERE YOU OUT THERE? — BECAUSE WERE LOCAL. THE SAME REASON THERE WERE OVER 30 SURFERS IN THE WATER THAT DAY TO EXPERIENCE THIS BEAUTY. — THIS ONE KEEP US OUT OF THE WATER. WE’LL BE BACK IN AS SOON AS THE STORM PASSES. YOU HEARD IT THERE— LESSON LEARNED– THEY SAY THEY’LL WAIT FOR THE STORM TO PASS BEFORE THEY GO BACK IN AGAIN..     Or you could just listen to the lifeguards. The ocean doesn't care if you're locals or not, and you clearly dont know how to identify a rip current. And that one was incredibly obvious. I mean seriously how ignorant can you be?

    People shouldn’t be scolding this mother rips are present weather or not there is a storm and people can very easily get stuck in them, nothing anyone can say will make her feel worse than she already does, why is everyone always so quick to knock a person when they are down, maybe we should all be a little bit more positive and helpful towards each other, lift each other up instead of tearing each other down. I’m just glad the boy is ok and kuddos to the man that saved him.
