IT’S REGARDING AN INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY A SOUTH CAROLINA LAW ENFORCEMENT DIVISION HELICOPTER CRASHED IN DORCHESTER COUNTY. WE’VE LEARNED MORE ABOUT THAT CRASH. COUNT ON 2 DORCHESTER COUNTY REPORTER STETSON MILLER HAS THE VERY LATEST FROM SUMMERVILLE AREA. A LITTLE OVER 24 HOURS AGO THAT FLED HELICOPTER HERE BEHIND ME AT SUMMERVILLE AIRPORT. THE FAA AND SLED AUTHORITIES WERE HERE YESTERDAY AND TODAY INVESTIGATING, AND NOW WE KNOW A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE CRASH. THIS AFTERNOON THE SLED HELICOPTER WAS HAULED AWAY FROM SUMMERVILLE AIRPORT AND THE WRECKAGE WAS CLEANED UP AFTER THE WEDNESDAY CRASH. SLED SPECIAL AGENT TOM BERRY TOLD NEWS 2 TODAY THAT THE PILOT THEN ONLY OCCUPANT OF THE HELICOPTER WAS TREATED AND HAS BEEN RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL. THE FAA CONFIRMED THE CRASH HAPPENED AT 3:30 7:00 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY, AND A SPOKESPERSON SAID THE HELICOPTER WAS A MACDONELL DUG ALSO 3679-E FLYING ON A MISSION FOR DORCHESTER COUNTY AUTHORITIES. THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE POSTED ON ITS FACEBOOK PAGE IT WAS CONDUCTING MARIJUANA ERADICATION FLIGHTS WITH SLED THAT DAY BUT SLED WOULD NOT CONFIRM IF THEY WERE CONNECTED TO THE CRASH. THERE’S NO WORD ON THE CAUSE OF THE CRASH. THAT WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE TSB. IT WAS SLED’S FIRST EVER HELICOPTER CRASH IN ITS HISTORY.
