Rising Stars | Cole Caufield on life as an NCAA rookie

It’s been a lot of fun so far. I think there’s a little bit of an adjustment just playing against older guys and that’s part of it. I got to play some games last year too. That helped out a lot. It’s been pretty fun so far. I think it’s been an easy transition and I’ve had a little bit of success so far. Obviously I wanted to get off to a good start and I think I did that, but I hit some ups and downs during the season. But it’s a long season and there are a lot of games left. I’m pretty happy with where I’m at now, but there’s still a lot of work to do. It’s different playing against those older guys being 18. It’s good for my development. Playing back-to-back against the same team also really helps your consistency and working the full 60 minutes both nights. I think that’s probably the biggest thing I have to work on and I think I’ve gotten better at that each weekend. If you’re good one night and you’re not the next, you’re not really making a big impact. That’s the biggest thing for me and the thing he’s preached the most to us is consistency. Just growing and improving each and every weekend is big for me right now. Just growing up watching as a kid, you dream of playing in that tournament. It was a tradition for my family to watch that. Now that it’s coming up and I could be a part of it means a lot to me. Short-term, just trying to get better every day. Just being where your feet are. I think that’s the most important thing right now. Long-term, obviously I want to make the team next year. I think that’s in the back of my mind right now, for sure, but I’m just kind of focusing on day-by-day things and just trying to keep my head one-day-at-a-time.
