Raptor Report – MC Men’s Soccer v CSM Highlights

The MC Raptor’s came into Friday’s game against
Southern Maryland ranked number six in the NJCAA National Poll with a 9-1 record and
tied for first in MDJUCO. The Hawks on the other hand were struggling,
coming in at just 1-4. But records don’t mean much when it’s a MDJUCO
game and the Hawks, a big and physical squad, were not intimidated by the red hot Raptors. But MC struck first and early; after the Hawk’s
cleared the corner attack, MC’s Giles Beven was fouled. His free kick was on target and look at Alec
Jones get way above everyone to head it in and put the Raptors quickly on top. Let’s take another look…one nil MC on a
beautiful play. MC controlled possession most of the half,
but late in the first half, the Hawks with a throw in, the header redirects it to Brandon
Herscher and he bangs it past the diving Keeper to tie it at one. Minutes later the Hawks with a corner that
sets up an incredible sequence. MC’s Keeper Yvan Moundou with the initial
stop, then he stops the rebound, and then the MC defense is there to block yet another
rebounder. Somehow, the Hawks came up empty as the Raptor
Defense came up big and that’s how we went to break all knotted at one. Early in the second half, the Raptors with
a great chance to take the lead, Youness Benmouna with a beautiful ball over the defense, Alec
Jones with the shot, but the Hawk’s Keeper is there to stop it. The Raptor’s kept putting on the pressure,
taking the game to the Hawks, Benmouna with the corner, Francisco Manque shot somehow
does not go in and MC’s rebound shot is also blocked to keep things tied at one. Minutes later, MC on the attack again, but
this time, Manque’s shot sails just high. But just a minute later, CSM can’t clear Manque’s
pass, it’s deflected to Jones and he scores his second goal of the game to give MC the
2-1 lead midway thru the second half. Moments later MC with a chance to ice it after
a Hawks’ foul, but Beven’s free kick is stopped and then the Hawks’ Keeper hops up to stop
the rebound and then smother the ball. But with just over a minute to play, MC did
ice it. After a hard foul on Alec Jones, that set
up a Raptor free kick. It’s a beauty and Carlos Machado is there
to head it in and give MC a 3-1 lead and put this one to bed. With the win, the Raptors improve to 10-1
on the season and remain tied for first in the MDJUCO with Essex, that sets up an MC
v Essex showdown next Wednesday at SoccerPlex. For the Raptor Report, I’m Michael Brown
