Jeevan’s special visit with Jacob Markstrom – Every Kids Dream

– How you doing buddy? – I’m doing good. – What’s your name? – My name’s Jeevan. – [Markstrom] Nice to meet you buddy. – Earlier this year, when we heard about Markstrom and his dad,
he brought it up too. He’s like, “I know exactly
what he’s going through.” Right, he goes, “I know what that’s like.” (upbeat music) My name’s Manpreet Guttmann
and this is my son, Jeevan. For the most part, he’s
a pretty quiet kid. But he’s got a really weird sense of humor and very quirky. – Quirky? What does that even mean? (upbeat music) – We were back here at Rogers Arena for a special event where you
could see an open practice and meet some players. We found out that Markstrom
wasn’t one of the players that were available for signing
and he was just so upset. It was also the same day
that his dad passed away. When we heard about Markstrom and his dad, he’s like, “I know exactly
what he’s going through.” Right, he goes, “I know what that’s like.” (upbeat music) (crowd cheering) (upbeat music) – How you doing buddy? – I’m doing good. – Are you excited? – Yes, I am really excited. – Nervous? – Not anymore. – [Announcer] Please join us in welcoming 11 year old Jeevan
Guttmann from Burnaby Minor to tonight’s starting
lineup, presented by Rogers. – [Jeevan] All right
then, good luck to you. – You got it? See you after the game, hey? Have a good one. – All right, see you. I thought it was really good. – Pretty cool, hey? – Yeah. – Markstrom’s so tall, hey? – Yeah, he’s really chill. – It’s been great. The hockey team that year
became like family to us and it’s still a very
important part of what we do. – I really took my mind off it. I’m not really focused about that. It just really keeps your mind off it and it’s something productive to do. – Good job today. – Thank you. – I heard it’s your birthday tomorrow. – Oh yeah it is. – So I got some early presents for ya. – Sweet, thank you. Thank you very much. – You’re very welcome. Just follow the puck. That’s all you gotta worry about. Not to get sidetracked
about all the other stuff. – I usually forget about everything and just focus on the game. – Yeah, that’s all you gotta do. You’re on the right track. This is my spot right here. – I heard from someone that
if you step in the low goal it’s bad luck or something like that? – Yeah, you gotta pay a fine too. – Oh actually? – Yeah, you don’t want that. – I don’t wanna pay a fine. – No, me neither. – What do you prefer, CCM or Bauer? – It’s a Vaughn helmet actually. – Oh Vaughn. – So I play with a
Vaughn helmet right now. – This is a really cool
present, like really high. – [Interviewer] Is it one
of your favorite presents? – Yeah, it probably is. – Super nice to meet you. Take care, have fun. – Also nice to meet you too. – Yeah, and have fun playing hockey. – I will. – Yeah, perfect. That’s all you gotta do. (upbeat music)

Community outreach is so important. Young kids idolize these guys, and the Canucks have done a great job of producing humble players who are never โ€˜too goodโ€™ for stuff like this. Classy work, as always.

The Canucks have done an amazing job of not only building a team of great players but also a team of great human beings. From the humble Sedin's and their philanthropy, to Boeser and his prom date.
Markstrom is another example of the great people they have assembled.
