Iditarod sled-dog team from New Hampshire attacked by snowmobiler

STEPHANIE: RIGHT NOW A MAN IS IN CUSTODY AFTER A DEADLY ATTACK IN TH IDITAROD RACE MUSHER ALIY ZIRKLE HAS FINISHED THE IDITAROD 15 TIMES AND WAS QUOTED SAYING IDITAROD IS MY PASSION, MY JOB, MY LIFE. ZIRKLE HAS WON SECOND PLACE THREE TIMES FROM 2012 TO 2014. BUT SATURDAY MORNING IN ANCHORAGE, ALASKA A DEADLY ATTACK HAPPENED. ACCORDING TO A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE IDITAROD TRAIL COMMITTEE, ZIRKLE WAS PULLING IN INTO THE CHECKPOINT WHEN SOMEONE ATTEMPTED TO HURT HER. SHE TOLD RACE OFFICIALS SHE HAD BEEN ATTACKED AND USED A TRAIL MARKER TO FIGHT THE PERSON OFF. ONE OF THE DOGS WAS INJURED BUT IS EXPECTED TO RECOVER UNLIKE OTHER DOGS. BEHIND HER WAS JEFF KING TRYING FOR HIS FIFTH RACE.>>I’VE GOT A GORGEOUS DOG TEAM. AND WE HAD A GOOD TIME. IT WAS FUN. SCOIF OFFICIALS SAY THE SAME SNOWMOBILER KILLED ONE DOG AND INJURED SEVERAL OTHERS. KING SAID HIS TEAM WAS WELL LIT AT THE TIME AND THAT THE INCIDENT FELT VERY INTENTIONAL. HE DESCRIBES STANDING OVER HIS DOGS AS THEY STRUGGLED OVER IN PAIN WITH BROKEN LIMBS AND IN THE THROWS OF DEATH FOR ONE OF THEM. THE SUSPECT 26-YEAR-OLD ARNOLD DEMOSKI WAS ARRESTED ON RECKLESS DRIVING AND SIX COUNTS OF CRIMINAL MISCHIEF. HE TOLD ALASKAN MEDIA HE HAD BLACKED OUT AND DID NOT INTENTIONAL DRIVE INTO THE DOG TEAMS.
