Montz former pro and founder of OnlineSoccerAcademy.com. Today we are learning how to receive a hard
pass in the air. If this is what you look like when you receive
a pass then this OSA video is for you! This OSA video is sponsored by our parent
company Believe in it®. Believe in it® is apparel that inspires you to reach your goal.
It’s for motivated athletes; all sports, all ages. BelieveinitApparel.com is launching
in early 2014; enter your email to be alerted when you can buy a Believe in it® shirt! Description:
1st touch in soccer is everything. If you can’t control a ball it’s hard to play this
game. Most of this exercise will be controlling a ball out of the air but the same technique
applies to the ground too. Key Points:
1. Think of catching an egg. Would you catch an egg like this? No, because it would crack.
Would you catch an egg like this? Yes, because you are cradling or cushioning it in. This
same idea applies with your foot. 2. Have your foot meet the ball out in front
of your plant leg. This will give you room to cushion the ball in. 3. Cushion the ball in right as it’s about
to hit your foot. Do not let it hit you and then start cushioning it in. That’s to late,
it’s all about timing. 4. Make contact on the upper middle part of
the ball. This helps get your touch to go down. If you make contact under the ball or
on the lower part of the ball, there is a good chance the ball will pop up on you. 5. Have a slight lean forward with your chest.
Don’t lean back when you take your touch. 6. Keep your eyes on the ball. Look at the
ball when you take your touch. Equipment Needed:
You will need a partner and a ball. If you don’t have a partner use a wall or fence and
make due the best you can by kicking the ball off the fence and as it comes back to you,
control it. Exercise Player Can Do:
Start off having your partner with the ball in their hands. They throw it to you under
hand with little spin on the ball from 5 yards away. They throw it, you control it and pass
it back on the ground. Then repeat for 1 minute and switch with your partner. Your partner should not be throwing the ball
to hard at you. Decent pace but not to hard. We are working on control and we have to take
baby steps to improve, don’t immediately start making it to hard on yourself. Once you start
to get it, then you can increase speed of the throw and distance. Repeat this exercise from 5 yards until you
get it. Once you are getting it have your partner throw it from 10 yards and at a faster
pace. Then have them kick it from 15 yards and kick it at a fast pace. Keep increasing
distance and speed of pass as you get more confident. What Player Could Be Doing Wrong:
Some things that could be going wrong. If the ball is hitting you and just flying off
your foot then you are not cushioning the ball in. Think of the egg, cushion the egg
in when you catch it, don’t let it just hit you and crack. If you can’t get the timing down then your
partner is throwing or kicking the ball to fast to you. Ask them politely to not pass
it so hard so you can get the timing down. Once you do get the timing down, then you
can ask them to speed up the pass to you. Bonus Tips!
Juggling is a great way to improve ball control! Click here to watch OSA videos teaching you
how to juggle. Improve your juggling and receiving hard passes out of the air will start to come
more naturally to you. When using other parts of your body for controlling
a pass the same idea applies; cushion the ball in. Don’t let it just hit you and bounce
off. Hope you enjoyed this Online Soccer Academy
