Just saying this, my high school coach noticed that I couldn't shield against the heavier guys. He had me doing 3×6 pistol squats, weighted squats and split squats. And trained my core for stability for 30inutes

  11. SkittlesVSnickers says:

Sorry. For 2weeks and I had no trouble fending off everyone.

Good suggestion for a video! You be patient and keep them going backwards. Wait for them to mess up. If they go backwards you did your job.

I retired because I tore my labrum in my groin/hip region. After two surgeries and lots of physical therapy I just wasn't the same player anymore and not good enough to play pro. It was time to retire. You can read more about it on the OnlineSoccerAcademy(dot)com blog by going to the blog and clicking the "retirement speech" category on the right hand side.

  21. Online Soccer Academy says:

You are welcome! Credit to you for improving!

  25. Matt Johnson says:

jared, i think it'd be a really good idea to make an analytical series, where you look at strong players from around the world and analyze what makes them stand out from the rest. Then you could not only help with players' technical ball skill, but you could help them with their in-game performance.

  26. Jc Vazquez says:

  68. Gammathe Llama says:

What if they push you off the ball. I am a 13 year old and im quite small for my age and every time I go up against a guy I shield as a last resort but every time i do they push me off the ball.

  69. TJ Kostecky says:

He left out a MAJOR point! When shielding the ball, eyes & and head MUST be up and moving on a swivel at all times!  If you do it with your head down….as his head was down the entire time on the demo, the negative take away is 1. You'll get double teamed and lose the ball 2. You'll miss seeing teammates who are supporting you from behind and teammates making penetrating runs. (and tick off your teammates) 3. You'll miss seeing where there is the MOST room to spin away from the defender and maintain possession. Clever defenders will pull and tug, so "feeling" for the defender is an inadequate option. Click on clips of Iniesta, Xavi and Pirlo shielding the ball. They NEVER have their head down!  Copy and model their habits and become the best player you can be! Good luck

You can't use your arm, that's a foul. in your clips, you use your arm against him to cover the ball. it's a foul that is sadly never called
