Day 1 Highlights from Lake Placid. In
the Men Short Program Ilia MALININ of the United States skated last and
produced a beautiful triple axel and a clean and charming performance to earn 71.34 and 3rd place. Last season Junior Grand Prix Final champion Stephen GOGOLEV of Canada also produced a clean and mature performance earning 78.85 and sits 2nd after the Short. And starting in 2nd position Shun SATO of Japan was solid technically earning 79.19 and top spot going into
the Free. In the Pairs Short Program, the podium so far is owned by Russia. Skating with solid basic skill and good technical elements Alina PEPELEVA and Roman PLESHKOV of Russia earned 55.68 to take third. Kseniia AKHANTEVA and Valerii KOLESOV of Russia had a strong short program earning 58.66 and hold on to 2nd after the Short. And Apollinariia PANFILOVA and Dmitry RYLOV of Russia, the favorites coming into the event, pulled a 10 point lead with a 68.21 going into the Free.
