CGRundertow SHAUN PALMER’S PRO SNOWBOARDER for PlayStation 2 Video Game Review

CGRundertow SHAUN PALMER’S PRO SNOWBOARDER for PlayStation 2 Video Game Review

With the success of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater
franchise, Activision was just finding any extreme sport, making a game, and having it
star a big name from that sport. This is what caused the creation of Shaun Palmer’s Pro
Snowboarder, a game that sounds like Tony Hawk Pro Skater on a mountain, and plays like
Tony Hawk Pro Skater on a mountain, which should not be considered an insult. As stated, if you have ever played a Tony
Hawk game then this will feel very familiar to you. X makes you jump, triangle allows
you to grind, circle are your grab moves and square are your flips. Everything feels nice
and responsive, allowing you to string together plenty of insane moves. The real focus of the game is the career mode.
You can select your pro from a pretty good selection of big names from the industry including
White, Backman, Olson, and even Shaun Palmer himself. Or you can create your pro and build
him up as you progress. And then you take to the slopes. There are plenty of mountains
for you to ride on and each one is laid out with a focus on tricks. There will be snowmobiles
positioned for jumps, random beams for grinds, and even some huge jumps for you to get major
air on. And the game has a great soundtrack that fits very well, with tracks songs from
Spineshank, Powerman 5000, and Pantera. All good stuff. The game starts out with practically everything
locked away, making you have to earn your rewards. Each mountain has a checklist of
things that you need to do on it. From things like getting the three high scores, to collecting
the logos, and even finding the hidden sponsor. The levels are large and are filled with more
secrets and surprises than a piñata created by the illuminati. And that is really where
the biggest flaw is in the game. Many of the goals are so secretive and hidden away that
you will do plenty of runs where you search and search and find nothing. And when you
do, you have just a split second to do something or your run is ruined, forcing you to have
to start all over again. It is not a deal breaker, but at least in Tony Hawk, you could
skate back and try again, but here you can’t really ride up the mountain. If you have ever thought that Tony Hawk Pro
Skater would be a lot better if it had snowboards instead, then this is the game for you. The
career mode can be frustrating but it is enough fun to keep you playing.

Good review. Fun game but the career mode has really aggravating parts. Try playing it with double speed and half gravity cheats. It's horrendously difficult yet hilarious. Slamming into the ceiling of the indoor hill doesn't get old.
